One of the very relaxing 13 afternoons we spent in Broome, Nicole and I walked down to Cable Beach to check out the famous camel rides. Neither of us were that interested in having a ride and, even if we were, they were booked out for weeks and weeks (apparently).
Arriving at the beach half an hour before sunset we found a literal “Cable Beach Car Park”, with 4WDs lined up on the beach as far as we could see — ready for the show.

In the distance we could see the camel train approaching. We decided to head a little closer to them and walking along the beach noticed some very young kids having fun playing. As I got to around two metres away from one little girl, she flung her frisbee as hard as she could (which was actually pretty hard) and hit me smack in the middle of the chest. Ouch! Then, I thought I heard her say, “Gees, that was close!” As I started giving the girl and the nearby parents a bit of a glare and mentioned to Nicole that I vehemently disagreed with the girl’s assessment, Nicole advised me that the girl had actually said, “Gees, that wasn’t good!” OK then.
Anyway, the camels were quite impressive as they came down the beach. If you were riding the camels you’d want to be comfortable with lots of attention and lots of photos getting taken of you, as pretty much every person along the beach (and there were a lot of them) was doing just that.

After they’d passed, I decided to take some sunset photos; a very nice way to pass the time.

And, just to make sure of things, we walked back the next morning for another walk. A really, really lovely place.
