25 October 2024
As I write this, we’ve just left Port Lincoln on Day 211 out of 283 days we will have been away by the time we arrive back in Brisbane on 5 January 2025. That means we are bang on 75% of the way through our trip. And roughly speaking, we seem to be around 75% of the way around this massive country.

We’ve now driven 23,181 km, which is interesting because my original planned travel distance was 18,500 km. Oh well, the best laid plans of mice and men and all that …
We’re now starting to think more about what it will be like returning home and, yes Craig and Jen, returning to work. I’m actually looking forward to both, but we plan to enjoy the rest of our trip as much as we can.
We’ve now started creating a “Next Time” list for all of those things that we just don’t have time for. While it’s tempting to try to see too much, things then just become a blur and you don’t end up enjoying them as much. So we are trying to do more 3-night and more stays now, to give ourselves time to recover between bursts of sightseeing.
We both spend a lot of time editing photos, collecting and organising photos, updating journals (Nicole) and TravelMap (Steve), which actually takes a lot of time. However, the alternative of leaving all of this until we get home would just be a nightmare. We literally will have thousands of photos from this trip even after culling!
This is one of the main reasons the blog posts have dried up because I just don’t seem to get the time. I know, I don’t think too many of you are sympathising with us being too busy from seeing all of these wonderful places. But it is a case of getting the balance right between seeing, experiencing, documenting, relaxing and reflecting. I might be getting a bit deep here …
Anyway, we’ll be heading off the Eyre Peninsula soon and up to the Flinders Ranges for around a week. We can’t wait and will share some highlights with you once we get there.
