7 January 2025
At 11:11am on Saturday 4 January 2025 — 281 days after we left home — we finally (and safely) arrived back home. We had finally closed the circle on TravelMap, completing our epic Big Lap.
We’d left Port Macquarie at around 5:00am AEDT (meaning around 6:00am AEST) that morning, so were pretty stuffed when we arrived; but he excitement of arriving home made us forget all of that.

Waiting for us on the driveway was our beautiful daughter, Katelyn, and our faithful Golden Retriever, Daisy. It was so good to see them both! While we’d been chatting daily to Katelyn, Daisy had continually refused to acknowledge us on the phone. I was a bit worried that she wouldn’t remember us, but she certainly did.
The house and yard looked amazing. Thank you so much Katelyn for looking after the house while we’ve been away; you did such an amazing job!

After this excitement of arriving home, we started mentally processing our re-entry into life in Brisbane. It felt strange being in a house we had lived in for so long, but not since Easter. The streets and houses and shops looked familiar, but it still all felt a bit odd. This will last a little while, but already we’re starting to feel like this is our normal life, as opposed to moving location on a regular basis.
Living in a house again is great. Comfortable lounges, big cupboards, big TV, plenty of space, and the house doesn’t rock around as you move through it. But part of us still already misses the simplicity of life on the road, however that can wait a while now. We’re just glad to be home!
