Outside of our Kalbarri Mega Sightseeing Day we really did take it easy. This consisted of some nice walks to the two local bakeries (sausage roll scores to come), and a hot chips lunch at the Tavern.
I got to watch an extremely close and exciting match between the Brisbane Lions and the Sydney Swans, and the Lions won!!

This is too close.

The Lions win!!
We got to meet George (several times); a beautiful Golden Retriever owned by one of the onsite cleaners. What a lovely boy he is!

We ended up having three Explorer Motorhomes booked on consecutive sites — all travelling independently and arriving on different days. What are the chances! As someone said to us, you probably wouldn’t be able to arrange that even if you were together and tried.

I got to meet, and feed, Frederika (Freddy to her friends) the resident Corella.

Nicole had an aborted attempt to watch the daily Pelican feeding, due to lots of rain falling on our last day here. The silver lining though was that she got to have a raisin toast treat at the Pelican Cafe while she waited for a break in the weather.

And most importantly, we met two absolutely lovely couples who have travelled up from Perth. Ray and Moira have just purchased a new caravan and are taking it on its maiden voyage. Moira’s sister, Shirley, and Shirley’s husband Greg are providing moral support as experienced caravanners. They invited Nicole and I along to the pub for a few drinks on Saturday afternoon at the Kalbarri Motor Hotel, which was great.
We also had a lovely evening together at Finlay’s, a microbrewery that is a well-known local institution, at their famous Sunday Session. It was a great night. The singer was fantastic with an enormous range of great songs he went through, all while in bare feet (must have been cold!). And the Finlay’s beer was very good too; I especially liked the Coral Coast Mid.
And best of all, it gave Nicole her first chance to wear the lovely new jacket she bought all the way back in Mount Isa! Looks really nice Nicole.

Lovely new jacket.

Finlay’s.

Our new friends at Finlay’s.
We’ve been very lucky to meet so many lovely people on our trip so far, and Shirley, Greg, Moira and Ray are at the top of that list. Thanks so much for your hospitality, we’ll see you again in Perth.
