Today was our first full day in holiday mode. I woke up early and went for a walk around the city centre while Nicole and Katelyn slept in. What became very obvious, very quickly, is that San Francisco is full of crazy people … and homeless people … and crazy homeless people. I’ve never seen so many people sleeping rough anywhere. According to a taxi driver the residency policies for this area encourage homeless people to move here from other areas, as after 12 months here they can apply for housing support. Whatever the policy, it is a very sad indictment on society here — brought into sharper focus given that today is Thanksgiving Day.
To more positive things, this morning we caught the cable car down to Fisherman’s Wharf. I’d forgotten how steep the streets are here! Humphrey Bogart once caught the cable car we caught this morning, when he was filming Dark Passage way back in 1947. Good on HB I say.

After having breakfast and a good look around Fisherman’s Wharf (most of which was shut due to the Thanksgiving Day public holiday), we headed back to the hotel for a rest — as we were still just shaking the jet lag off.
After that we then caught a taxi down to Crissy Beach to see the famous Golden Gate Bridge and photograph it in all its glory. It was definitely worth the trip.

Tomorrow morning we are getting picked up by an Uber driver for our full day tour of San Francisco, the first half of the day taken up by a trip to, and tour of, Alcatraz Island. Will share that one with you tomorrow …
