19: Zion National Park

2 December 2017

Today (Friday) we left the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas behind and headed north west. In the space of around an hour or so we spent time in three states — Nevada, Arizona (just going across the north west corner) and then into Utah.

Our main activity for the day was a 2 hour hike in Zion National Park in the mid-afternoon. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking once again. The park is really well laid out, with a great visitor centre and gift shop.

Unfortunately, due to the time of year, Katelyn wasn’t able to do the horse trail ride she had been keen to do. A lot of things are shut this time of year, but there’s still plenty to see and do.

We then arrived in Bryce Canyon National Park on dark, but got a good look at the different style of rock formations in this area on our way in. While there are some similarities to Zion National Park, the formations are very unique in their own way. We’ll get a chance to see them up close tomorrow — including an early morning trip to watch the sunrise over Bryce Canyon!
